In 2013, Chrisney Elementary became part of the HEROES initiative through the Welborn Baptist Foundation. Our school has made a commitment to improving the overall wellness of our students, staff, families, and community by focusing on improving the nutrition and fitness levels of all. Below is a brief description of some of our wellness activities.
-
5K running club- Students, staff, and family members spend 6-8 weeks in the fall training for a 5k. At the end of the training, the 5K club competes in the Chrisney 5K race.
-
Morning Fitness- Students have the opportunity to participate in morning fitness activities from 7:30-7:45 each day. Students may go outside to participate in the walking/running club or they may participate in Minds In Motion activities that are set up in the gym and hallways.
-
Taste Testing- Students are introduced to a variety of fruits and vegetables through multiple taste testings throughout the year. Opportunities are given to try the fruits and vegetables prepared in different ways.
-
Fitness Friday- Each Friday from 2:30-3:00, students and staff participate in planned fitness activities. Activities change throughout the year and students are able to choose the activity they wish to participate in.
-
Extra fruit and vegetables- At lunchtime, students who eat a school lunch are able to visit a fruit and vegetable bar to fill up on extra fruits and vegetables at no extra charge.
-
Water bottle refill stations- All students at Chrisney Elementary are encouraged to keep water bottles on their desk in the classroom. Water fountains within our building are equipped with a water bottle refill station for kids to easily refill their water bottle throughout the day.
-
Salad Bar- Students in grades 1-6 are offered salad bar as a lunch option on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
